Guyana: More prisoners test positive for COVID-19 at Lusignan prison

Around 140 inmates of the Lusignan Prison in Guyana have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).

This was revealed by Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn at today’s sitting of the National Assembly.

Yesterday, Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony announced that 120 inmates had tested positive for COVID-19. Samples from 200 inmates have been taken for assessment.

Benn said approximately 80 of the infected prisoners have been moved to another location for treatment.

Work is ongoing to outfit a section of the prison to increase space.

Benn added prisoners will be provided with masks and sanitation stations for frequent hand washing.
