Grenada's CSEC pass rate improves, one student achieves 16 grade ones

Grenada has released its preliminary results of the May/June 2020 CSEC examinations.  

It says this year’s results have revealed several successes.  

The Ministry of Education says Grenada’s performance was better than the regional performance in all the Pure Sciences.

In terms of performance, one student received acceptable grades (I to III) in 18 subjects, with 16 grade ones, one grade two and one grade three, which is a first for Grenada.  

Two students obtained 13 grade ones, five students achieved 12 grade ones, seven students obtained 11 grade ones and four students attained 10 grade ones.  

In 2019, the highest number of subject passes, 15, was obtained by one student whilst two other students obtained 14 grade ones.  

For 2020, the percentage pass rate (Grades I to III) in the examination was 77.3 per cent, an improvement of 2.76 per cent compared to the 74.54 per cent in 2019.  

In 2018 the pass rate was 70.50 per cent.  

The subjects with the highest percentage pass were:  

  • Theatre Arts- 100 per cent  

  • Music- 100 per cent  

  • Industrial Technology Mechanical- 100 per cent  

  • Physical Education and Sport –99.49 per cent  

  • Electronic Documentation Preparation and Management- 98.99 per cent  

  • Technical Drawing –96.46 per cent  

  • Agricultural Science- 95.05 per cent  

  • Industrial Technology-Electrical –93.40 per cent  

  • Principles of Business- 93.2 per cent  

  • Food, Nutrition and Health- 93.03 per cent  

  • Information Technology-92.74 per cent  

  • Office Administration – 92.14 per cent  

The subjects with the lowest percentage pass rate were:  

  • Mathematics- 43.56 per cent  

  • Spanish- 55.73 per cent  

  • Human and Social Biology- 63.60 per cent  

  • Economics- 64.03 per cent  

  • Chemistry- 64.65 per cent  

The Education ministry believes the achievements of students have much room for improvement and will continue to work with stakeholders to improve overall performance.
