British Virgin Islands Court system reopens

Legal matters in the British Virgin Islands’ Magistrates’ Court will resume from May 25.

Court Manager Annette Williams-Sylvester said proceedings will take place either in person or virtually.

Williams-Sylvester said the court will set up appointment dates and times for hearings since there is a territory-wide curfew to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“Matters involving defendants in custody for the same matter; part heard matters; the oldest matters on the court’s dockets; matters involving juveniles; matters for paper committal; matters involving defendants who would like to admit to the charges; and child maintenance matters will usually be given priority,” Williams-Sylvester said

The court will communicate with the parties to schedule appointment dates and times for the hearing of all matters.

Anyone with a matter before the court can call +1-284-468-4360 or +1-284-468-4309 or email  for more information.
