Men make up majority of the 127 confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infections in Guyana.
And, Senior Gender Affairs Officer in the Ministry of Social Protection, Diego Alfonso, has urged men to take their health seriously since COVID-19 is no respecter of person.
“Our machoness does not somehow miraculously make us immune from the virus. We as men are more vulnerable to contract the virus because of the nature of what we are involved in daily as men and the people and places we frequent,” Alfonso said.
Alfonso called on men to observe the COVID-19 guidelines “since regular hand washing does not make us less of a man. It demonstrates that we are responsible men and we are being excellent role models.
Alfonso highlighted that one sick person can infect their entire family and that is not something any responsible man would want to do.
