Surinamese police arrest two for kidnapping

The Surinamese police have arrested two men for kidnapping.

Police report the man, identified as Jackney B., and two companions allegedly took the victim, identified as Eric M., against his will on the evening of Saturday, October 31.

After the kidnapping, the victim was transferred from Albina (a town in eastern in Suriname) to Paramaribo (the capital located on the northern coast). The kidnappers demanded a large amount of money (the exact sum was not stated) in Euros as ransom.

Detectives of Region East in collaboration with members of the Region Assistance Team Paramaribo (RBTP) discovered the address where the victim was being held on November 2. Jackney B.  was arrested on sight and the Eric M. was liberated.

Police said one of Jackney B.'s companions, 37-year-old V.J., had been detected several times at his residential address and work location but for a time evaded arrest. He was finally by RBTP in the resort Geyersvlijt on the evening of November 13.

"This suspect confesses to voluntarily offering his services to kidnap the victim."

The police are working on the arrest of the second companion.
