School children in Bonaire test positive for COVID-19
While little has been heard about coronavirus in Bonaire, the Dutch Caribbean island has been dealing with its challenges in relation to the pandemic.
Bonaire has reported that in recent days, five children between the ages of eight and 12 tested positive for COVID-19.
It says these children have very mild to no symptoms and are doing well at home in isolation.
Bonaire’s Public Health Department says it has done extensive source and contact tracing and in all cases, the children were infected in their home environment.
Three of the five children had not attended school while they were contagious because they were already in quarantine due to a prior infection at home.
However, the other two children did attend school.
The Department of Public Health says though the chance of infection is small, 10 other students will be quarantined just to be safe, after they had close contact with the two pupils.
The public body Bonaire says to date the island has recorded a total of 107 positive cases.
Two persons have died due to COVID-19 while there have been 45 recoveries from the virus.
