PM Harris: The COVID-19 pandemic must be taken seriously

Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris is urging the people of St Kitts and Nevis to take the threat posed by global spread of COVID-19, seriously.

He said: “The pandemic is no laughing matter and our people must treat the pandemic with all seriousness. Some people are jeopardising the vulnerable groups and indeed all of us, by callous and selfish behaviour and I must call on the guilty ones to stop their inappropriate behaviours now.”

PM Harris said standing in crowded places is an unwise practice, as it could result in the wide spread of the virus, which in turn would overburden the Federation’s healthcare system.

“Please avoid crowds as much as possible and I dare say at all costs and follow the advice of our health professionals and indeed our security forces. They are on your side and they are, as we are, working to protect you sometimes at risk to themselves,” said Prime Minister Harris.

At last count on Sunday, St Kitts and Nevis had a total of 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

PM Harris said the government continues to work diligently to ensure the necessary protocols and measures are kept in place to contain the spread of the virus.
