Idris Elba's wife, Sabrina, has tested positive for COVID-19.

Her results came a week after her famous hubby told the world that he tested positive for the virus although he is not exhibiting any symptoms.

Mrs Elba's status was made known during an interview via Face Time with Oprah Winfrey, as she debuted a new series on Apple TV called "Oprah Talks: COVID-19".

Sabrina was criticised on social media for standing close to her husband in the video when he revealed he had the virus.

She told Oprah that she chose to stay with her husband because she wanted to be with him.

"I could have made the decision to put myself, maybe, in a separate room or stay away, and I'm sure that people are making those decisions. And they're tough decisions to make," she said.

"But I made the decision to want to be with him and, you know, still touch him."

Idris said his wife probably contracted the virus te same time as him as she was also exposed to the person he most likely contracted the virus from.

Since contracting the virus, Idris has been urging his fans via Twitter to stop spreading myths such as black people not being able to get COVID-19.

In one of his videos Idris, who is asthmatic, said he got tested because someone he was in close contact with 10 days before was infected and he was on location to shoot a film and was mandated to get a test immediately.

He said his wife was on the other side of the world and arrived to meet him the day he got tested.

He said they took a calculated risk as a couple to be together when he got his results.

The couple said they are feeling fine.
