President David Granger has sent condolences to the family of former Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana.

In a brief statement on Monday, Granger said he was “saddened” by news of Arthur’s death.

“The former Barbadian Prime Minister led recently an 11-member Commonwealth Observer Mission for Guyana’s General and Regional Elections which were held in March. In February, Mr. Arthur and the members of his observer team called on President Granger at the Ministry of the Presidency,” Granger stated.

Arthur passed away on Monday morning while he was receiving treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in the Barbadian capital.

He was 70 years old.
