Dutch Caribbean records COVID-19 spike

The Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) has observed a high number of COVID-19 cases in the Caribbean.  

PAHO Director Dr Carissa Etienne said over the past week a high number of cases were seen in the English-speaking Caribbean as well as Dutch territories.

The islands highlighted by PAHO included Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba and Sint Maarten.  

In terms of total confirmed cases, as of October 14 Bonaire had 131 cases, Curacao 619, Aruba 4,255 and Sint Maarten 719.  

The PAHO Director said as of October 13, more than 18 million COVID-19 cases and more than 590,000 deaths have been reported in the Americas.  

This development was discussed during a news briefing today.
